High Performance Training Group
The High Performance Training Group (HPTG) is Rugby Nova Scotia’s off-season training environment for athletes who have been identified within the Rugby Canada performance pathway and are committed to pursuing higher levels of competition in the sport.
Participation in the HPTG is by invitation only. Athletes are identified through Rugby Canada’s talent identification and pathway processes, which may occur through Rugby Canada camps and programs, U SPORTS competition, club rugby, provincial team programs, and other recognized performance environments.
The program is designed for Nova Scotia athletes, and athletes residing in Nova Scotia, who are typically between the ages of 17 and senior level. It provides an opportunity for identified athletes to continue their development in a structured, high-performance environment outside of their club and school or university seasons.
Training focuses on the technical, tactical, physical, and mental demands of the modern game while exposing athletes to the standards and expectations of national pathway programming. Athletes work alongside some of the province’s top coaches and support staff as they prepare for provincial, national, and international opportunities.
The annual training plan varies from year to year based on competition schedules and targeted performance outcomes, ensuring athletes are appropriately prepared for the demands of their next stage of development.
